Resort Review: Barcelo Maya Grand, Riviera Maya, Mexico

My husband and I recently enjoyed a getaway to the stunning Riviera Maya, spending five days and four nights at the Barcelo Maya Riviera, an adults-only sanctuary nestled within the expansive Barcelo Maya Grand Resort. Set along one of Mexico’s most beautiful coastlines, this destination delivers the ultimate escape for families and couples alike. Located about an hour from Cancun International Airport, the Barcelo Maya Grand Resort is a unique all-inclusive complex with six different hotel experiences to choose from, each offering their own perks and access levels across the properties. This resort offers something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a quiet couples’ retreat or a family adventure full of activities.

The Stay-and-Play Concept:

The Barcelo Maya complex is designed for both variety and flexibility. Since we stayed at the adults-only Barcelo Maya Riviera, we had full access to all six hotels within the complex: Maya Riviera, Caribe, Beach, Colonial, Tropical, and the Palace. The adults-only atmosphere was perfect for unwinding, while access to the other properties gave us a range of dining, entertainment, and relaxation options. For guests at other hotels, access varies depending on their chosen property, creating an ideal balance of exclusivity and exploration.

Resort Highlights:

This resort feels like its own world, offering amenities that kept us exploring and entertained each day. We spent our days between the various pools, each with unique features and atmospheres, and unwinding at the spa (there are two of them), which I highly recommend for couples. The resort offers both outdoor and indoor theaters for nightly shows, a disco, and a dolphinarium—a memorable experience for all ages. Families will love the kids’ water park and go-kart track, while couples can enjoy the shopping mall and fine dining options dotted throughout the property.

Dining and Entertainment:

Each of the six hotels has its own restaurants and bars, so we did not eat at the same spot twice. We especially loved the variety, from gourmet Mexican dishes to international cuisine. For a date night feel, Barcelo Maya Riviera offers a few sophisticated options, ideal for a quiet dinner together. Families and groups can enjoy numerous casual and family-friendly dining options throughout the complex, ensuring everyone is well-fed and happy.

Amenities for All:

Whether you’re seeking adventure or relaxation, the Barcelo Maya Grand Resort has it all. Some highlights included:

Pools Galore: A multitude of pools designed for everything from family fun to tranquil relaxation.

Water Activities: Snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, and other water activities keep things lively on the turquoise coast.

Kids’ Zone: Families can make memories at the kids’ water park or take on the go-kart track.

Nightlife: Between the outdoor theater shows, the disco, and live entertainment, there’s never a dull moment.

Relaxation: For a bit of peace, we indulged in the spa facilities, perfect for couples looking to unwind together.

This property has been on my must-visit list, and I’m so glad I finally got to stay and play here. The details here really do offer something for everyone. Having the option to access the other properties allowed for the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. It’s a place I will continue to recommend to my clients – both families and adults-only/couples.
