How to Pack Liquids When Bringing a Carry-On Bag Only

One of the most frequently asked questions I answer is what the liquid requirements are when traveling with a carry-on bag only.

The airlines will allow one 1-quart baggie per person for all liquids. When you're not checking a bag, you need to be extra careful with the liquids chosen.

Note: If I am checking a bag, I put all liquids in my checked bag. The liquids I leave in my purse or small backpack are: lip gloss, hand lotion, hand sanitizer, and peppermint essential oil (I use this for motion sickness!)

All of the liquids must fit inside the 1-quart baggie and be 3oz or less.

Here are the items I pack in my 1-quart baggie:

  • Shampoo and conditioner

  • Body lotion

  • Sunscreen (two variations)

  • Lip gloss

  • Mascara

  • Hand Sanitizer

  • Peppermint essential oil

  • Hairspray

  • Toothpaste

  • Travel-size perfume

  • Foundation

Tip: bar soap is not considered a liquid - double bag this and put it inside one of your shoes to save on space!
