The southern tip of Baja California is home to two vibrant towns: Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. While they are often referred to collectively as “Los Cabos,” these two destinations offer distinct vibes and experiences, making them a bucket list destination for a variety of travelers.
Jenna and I recently visited both areas of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. We wanted to share a few of our highlights.. We toured 13 resorts, stayed in 2 different resorts and explored and experienced the local area!
Cabo San Lucas: Vibrant and Adventurous
Cabo San Lucas is where the action is. Known for its lively marina, iconic landmarks, and energetic nightlife, this town is perfect for those seeking fun, adventure, and a touch of luxury.
The Marina: The bustling marina is a hub of activity, lined with shops, waterfront restaurants, and luxury yachts. Whether you’re booking a snorkeling tour, a sunset cruise, or simply people-watching, you will love the energy Cabo brings!
Hike Mount Solmar: For a more active experience, take the Mount Solmar hike. This trek rewards you with panoramic views of Cabo San Lucas, the sparkling Sea of Cortez, and the famous Arch.
Dining: Cabo’s dining scene ranges from casual taco joints to high-end culinary experiences. Be sure to try fresh seafood and enjoy cocktails at one of the many beachside restaurants.
Shopping: If you like to shop you are really going to enjoy yourself!
Cabo San Lucas is ideal for couples, families, and groups looking for adventure, a vibrant social scene, and plenty of activities. It’s also a hotspot for destination weddings and honeymoons thanks to its stunning landscapes and luxury resorts.
San José del Cabo: Quaint and Authentic
Just 30 minutes from Cabo San Lucas, San José del Cabo offers a completely different vibe. This charming town is known for its colonial architecture, art galleries, and a more relaxed atmosphere.
Our two favorites we enjoyed during our stay:
The Art Walk: If you’re visiting between November and June, don’t miss the Art Walk held every Thursday evening. Get there early and make sure you have time to enjoy dinner too. Jenna and I were so impressed with so much talent, we really enjoyed shopping and purchasing items made by locals. The bracelets and bags were are favorites! Stroll through cobblestone streets as galleries and shops showcase local artwork, live music, and cultural events.
Flora Farms: One of my favorite experiences in San José was a private cooking class at Flora Farms, a beautiful organic farm and restaurant. Jenna and I learned how to prepare farm-to-table pico, guacamole and fresh tortillas while enjoying the stunning surroundings. It’s perfect for foodies and anyone looking to immerse themselves in the local culture.
San José del Cabo is perfect for travelers seeking a laid-back vacation. Its quiet charm makes it great for couples, artists, or anyone looking to unwind and enjoy the slower side of Baja.
